Prof Dmitry Skryabin is a Reader in Physics. He joined the University of Bath in September 2001 after been a Royal Society of Edinburgh research fellow at the University of Strathclyde (Scotland). He has doctorates in physics and mathematics from St.Petersburg State University (Russia, 1996) and from the University of Strathclyde (1998).
Prof Skryabin has broad expertise in theoretical nonlinear optics and nonlinear physics in general. His research focuses on optical solitons, nanophotonics, nonlinear effects in waveguides (photonic crystal fibers, silicon photonic wires) and in microcavities. His most significant recent results are related to prediction and understanding of frequency conversion effects accompanying interaction of solitons with dispersive radiation and generation of supercontinuum in optical fibers. He has co-authored 80 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, which include papers in Nature and Science. Prof Skryabin has coordinated and participated in research projects funded by EPSRC, Leverhulme Trust and Royal Society. He is an acting associate editor for Optics Express.
