Biography
Dr Paul Snow is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physics at the University of Bath. He joined an optoelectronics group in Bath in 1991 having been in Oxford for eight years that included two degrees, much tutorial teaching, a short postdoc post and some cricket. For his doctorate, he measured hot carrier cooling in GaSb epilayers and extended the basic model, in which thermal relaxation is limited by a bottleneck in the LO phonon system. This work included performing time-resolved Raman measurements of the non-equilibrium phonon population. While a postdoctoral researcher at Bath he studied nonlinearities in semiconductor waveguides and initiated a collaboration with the Department of Chemistry at Bath in which the voltage-dependent tuning of luminescence from porous silicon (pSi) layers was investigated. This work led on to the achievements in pSi science - all conducted in the Optoelectronics Group (now called the CPPM).
He is happy to acknowledge that unlike several colleagues he has no musical ability whatsoever. However, instead he is very interested in the physics, acoustics and psycho-acoustics of high fidelity sound reproduction, which he explores when he can.
