Placement Opportunities at the University of Bath

The University of Bath is committed to supporting placements (thick/thin/integrated sandwich modes of study) in order to enhance the vocational relevance of its awards and the learning experience of its students. All disciplines offered at undergraduate level provide opportunities for placements within the UK or abroad, either as a mandatory or an optional element. Despite the increasing competition in the UK, students from Bath have a successful record of obtaining sandwich placements. This is evidence of employers' confidence in the University's ability to prepare its undergraduates for the working environment, ensuring they develop transferable/key skills (communication, numeracy, IT and learning skills) as well as discipline-based skills.

The placement forms a significant contribution to a student's personal and professional training and enhances employment prospects. In addition, staff gain a direct link to research and development activities in industry enabling them to ensure that the curriculum is relevant and meets the needs of prospective employers.

The University believes that employers place greater value on salaried employees and therefore encourages provision of paid placements. However, there are also a number of unpaid placements each year within hospitals, charitable organisations and academic institutions.

Good practice with regard to placement provision is disseminated via the Placement Tutors Forum, which includes in its membership all Placement Tutors as well as representatives from the Students' Union. It was established in recognition of the key role played by the placement in the overall student experience.

For further information on placement opportunities please contact the relevant placement tutor as listed here.

Alternatively, if you have placements which are suitable for students from any discipline, or summer placements, please email the Careers Advisory Service or call 01225 386009 to enquire about advertising in the vacancies database - see vacancy advertising for details. This is a free service.
