A more flexible approach to language in the Euromasters programme

Fri Jan 13 10:39:00 GMT 2012

The MA in Contemporary European Studies (Euromasters) has recently become more flexible to enable students to spend time studying in Siena, Italy or Prague, Czech Republic without requiring knowledge of the native language.

The innovative and unique two year Masters programme provides an unrivalled international learning experience, offering the opportunity to study at prestigious institutions:

  • University of Bath
  • Freie Universität Berlin, Germany
  • Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, Germany
  • Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain
  • Sciences Po Paris, France
  • Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic
  • Università degli Studi di Siena, Italy
  • University of Washington (Seattle), USA

Students spend the first of four semesters, the Core Module, at the University of Bath and then take two taught semesters, the Specialist Modules, at one or two of the partner sites, followed by a fourth semester completing a dissertation.

It is now possible for students to study in Seattle, Siena or Prague where courses are taught and examined in English. Students with German, French or Spanish language skills can spend time in Berlin, Paris or Madrid, where a mixed approach to language is implemented to ease the potential language hurdle when students first arrive.

As students are able to determine their programme of study, so that all semesters could be taught and examined in English, the programme team welcomes applications from students who do not have German, French or Spanish competency.

Students will gain a broad comparative understanding of the European Union (EU), US politics, policy and social evolution as well as specialist knowledge of key issues in the Euro-Atlantic area. The programme prepares participants for top jobs worldwide, for employment in a wide variety of international organisations, multinational corporations, public bodies or policy-formulating institutes.
