Students get creative with placement year showcase
2 November 2012
Students in the Department of Politics,
Languages & International Studies returning from their placement year have been showcasing
their experiences at a poster event.
Each placement student was required to create an A1 size poster that illustrated their involvement and achievements with the organisation they spent a year working for.
About two thirds of students in the Department undertake a placement year during their third year of study.
Staff from the Department, as well as current first and second year students attended the event to find out what organisations the placement students had been part of.
Prizes were awarded to the students that created the best poster presentations.
First prize was awarded to Jozie Millwater, who undertook her placement with Laura Sandys MP, House of Commons (London).
Speaking about her placement, Jozie said:
"My year on placement in parliament allowed me to gain in depth knowledge of the political
process in the UK. It has also provided me with an invaluable insight into the working world and it
has certainly helped me develop professionally.”
Second and third place were awarded to Eva Perrett and Philip Thies, who worked for at GRM International (London) and Fleishman-Hillard (Brussels) respectively.
Students highly commended were:
- Andrew Robinson - placement with Morgan Stanley (London)
- Laura Gulsen - placement with World Health Organisation (Malaysia) and United Nations (New York)
- Fiona Wong - placement with Daniel Kawczynski MP (Shrewsbury)
Clare Wilson (Faculty Placement Manager)
commented:
“This was a great chance for the returning students to showcase their year on placement. The
first and second year students were able to talk to them informally and view the posters. Several
later reported that they found the event inspiring.”
