Fri Sep 21 11:29:00 BST 2012

Dr Lisbeth Aggestam participated in the European Roundtable event entitled ‘Europe at the Crossroads’ to discuss political and economic developments in the European Union since the Eurozone crisis.

The European Roundtable was held at Wilton Park on 21-23 September 2012. Wilton Park is an executive agency of the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). It aims to facilitate an exchange of views between academics, think tanks and political practitioners on current issues of European and global politics.

The conference was organised by the German political foundation, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, to discuss political and economic developments in light of the Eurozone crisis and how these affect the European Union as a whole.

The Roundtable brought together 25 leading academics, parliamentarians and opinion-formers from across Europe for two days of discussions. It covered a range of highly topical issues on the European political agenda, such as the structural problems of the Euro, proposals for a fiscal and banking union, constitutional questions and the role of national parliaments.

The title of the conference was an apt description of the diverse views that currently exist on the future development of the European Union at the present time.
