Dr Adalgisa Giorgio is highly regarded both in the UK and abroad for her work on Italian women writers and for her edited publications on European women’s writing. She also has a recognized expertise in Neapolitan narrative and has written leading articles on Fabrizia Ramondino. She has links with the Fondazione Premio Napoli. She is among the founders of the Centre for Contemporary Women’s Writing (IGRS, University of London) and is a member of its Steering Committee. She has organized interdisciplinary conferences on Southern Italy, Italy in the 1970s, European women writers and Fabrizia Ramondino. She is on the editorial board of the Journal of Romance Studies and Italian Culture.

She was educated at the Istituto Universitario Orientale (Naples) and wrote her doctorate at the University of Reading. She held appointments at the Universities of Reading, Oxford, and Auckland (NZ) before coming to Bath in 1991. She is on the Coordinating Committee of the Gender & Sexuality Research Network, is a member of Senate and Chair of the University’s Equalities & Diversity Network and collaborates with the Equalities & Diversity Unit on the Women’s Development Network programme.

She teaches Italian Cultural Studies and Italian Language at all levels and runs a final year option on twentieth-century Italian women writers. She contributes to European Cultural Studies units. She is currently supervising two PhD students.

She is a member of the research cluster ‘Norms, Identities, and Representations’ and is the recipient of research grants from the British Academy, Italian Cultural Institute, and the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

She is external examiner for Italian at the University of Bangor and Manchester Metropolitan University and for the MA in Women’s Studies at University College Cork.
