Profile
Elena joined the Department in 2006 and was the Director of Studies for Postgraduate Interpreting and Translation from 2007-2011.
She has over 18 years of extensive conference interpretation and translation experience in the private and institutional markets in Europe and Russia, including the Gorbachev Foundation where she interpreted conferences and meetings involving President Mikhail Gorbachev.
As a freelance interpreter, Elena Kidd worked at the highest level for a number of government bodies, financial institutions and banks, such as:
- The Ministry of Finance of Russia
- The World Bank
- The Ministry of Finance of Sweden
- Experian UK
- The US Department of the Treasury
- KPMG-Peat Marwick (US)
She specialises in banking & finance, securities & exchanges, insurance, accounting and auditing.
As a senior interpreter of the Finance Academy of the RF Government, she interpreted meetings involving:
- UK Chartered Institute of Bankers
- UK Chartered Insurance Institute
- UK Chartered Institute of Accountants
- The London Institute of Underwriters
- The Association of British Insurers
- The Lloyds of London
She holds a Certificate from Comité Européen des Assurances (Brussels) which authorises her to interpret conferences and seminars in the field of insurance.
Teaching
Elena Kidd acts as the Course Director for the MA Interpreting & Translating (European Stream) and for the MA Translation & Professional Language Skills.
