Professor of French



Professor William Brooks is a graduate of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, where he also took his doctorate. He has served as Head of the former School of Modern Languages and International Studies, which later became the Department of European Studies and Modern Languages and is also a former French Section Coordinator.


Professor Brooks’s recent publications have included work on the French theatre, French baroque opera, and the life and writings of Elisabeth Charlotte, a German princess who married the French king’s brother and spent half a century at the French court.
