Mr Sam Sharpe Appointed by Council
Will undertake the responsibilities of members of governing bodies as set out in the CUC Guide for Members of Higher Education Governing Bodies in the UK.
Since September 2014, Sam Sharpe has been Chief Financial Officer of Save the Children UK, where he is responsible for the budgeting and financial governance of the charity.
Before joining Save the Children he was a civil servant in the Department for International Development (DFID), working as Director of Finance and Corporate Performance from 2007 to 2010, and Head of DFID's India office from 2010 to 2014. During his career, Sam has spent 13 years overseas. During the 1990s he managed programmes in Zambia, Zimbabwe and India; and from 2000 to 2004, he was Head of DFID's South Africa office. He also held a range of policy and corporate roles in London, including two secondments to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
After initially studying classics at Oxford University, Sam later took MSc degrees in economics from Birkbeck College in London University, and public management from Warwick University. He qualified as an accountant with the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).
