Tim Kaner Director of Marketing & Communications

Responsible for developing the University’s marketing and communications, including the branding, strategic planning and communication of these activities.


Tim Kaner joined the University of Bath as Director of Marketing & Communications in 2012.

As Director, he supports the University's vision, mission and corporate goals through effective marketing, communications and engagement activities. These enhance the University's national and international reputation and contribute to its financial sustainability.

His key areas of focus are:

  • enhancing the University’s reputation for world-class research
  • supporting the University’s student recruitment efforts
  • supporting the delivery of an outstanding student experience
  • building stronger staff engagement

Immediately before to coming to Bath, Tim worked as a branding and marketing consultant across industry sectors, including consumer goods, energy, financial services, healthcare and telecoms.

He spent over a decade at Sony Europe, where he was Director of Marketing Communications for Sony’s consumer electronics business. He then led their European Marketing Strategy Office with a mission to help build a more customer-centric sales and marketing culture.

He started his career in advertising.


Tim has an MBA from the Open University. He also holds an MA from Pembroke College, Cambridge, where he was inter alia President of the Junior Parlour and a member of the University Challenge team.
