Barbara Furnival Disability Service Manager

Barbara manages the Disability Service in Student Services, this includes Disability Advice, Disability Support and the Reasonable Adjustments Project.

Role

Barbara joined the University in March 2016. She is responsible for:

  • the Disability Advice team
  • the Disability Support Worker Service, managing provision of specialist mentors and specialist one to one study skills support for students
  • provision of advice to academic departments and professional services regarding reasonable adjustments for disabled students and strategies to achieve disability related legal compliance
  • contribution to the promotion of inclusive teaching and support practices

Career

After graduating with a degree in Psychology, Barbara worked in a hospital contributing to research in Health Promotion, then moved into university professional support services. During this time she undertook a variety of different roles within universities managing examinations and assessments, research degrees, timetabling, marketing and recruitment, registration, enrolment and quality assurance processes.

Barbara relocated to the South West in 2008 and became the Deputy Head of Disability Service at the University of the West of England in January 2013 before moving to the University of Bath.
