Dr Christopher Roche Elected by Non-Academic Staff

Will undertake the responsibilities of members of governing bodies as set out in the CUC Guide for Members of Higher Education Governing Bodies in the UK.

Career

Christopher studied at the University of Bath, obtaining a Master of Chemistry and a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry and Neuropharmacology. He has worked in Professional Services within the School of Management since 2014.

He is an elected staff representative to the University Health and Safety Committee, with a focus on the detrimental effects of job insecurity and excessive workloads on staff health and well-being. In 2017, he was elected by staff to University Council after pledging to advocate for pay equality and democratic accountability at the University.

Christopher joined University and College Union (UCU) as a post-graduate student and served as Vice President of the Local Association from 2015 to 2017. He is currently the Branch Secretary of University of Bath UNISON.

Off campus, he is a co-opted member of Bath & North East Somerset Council's Bath City Forum, Treasurer of Amnesty International Bath and Assistant Secretary of Bath Against Cuts.

His interests include cycling and running, most recently taking part in the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise funds for the anti-racism charity, HOPE not hate.
