Professor Gary Lock BEng (Hons), MSc, PhD Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering

Gary is responsible for the teaching, research and strategic planning of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Role

Professor Gary Lock was appointed Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2015. He is a Professor of Aerospace Engineering with research expertise in land-based gas turbine and aero-engine (jet) technology.

Career

Between 1991 and 1995 Gary was a Research Assistant in the Department of Engineering Science and a Fellow of Oriel College, University of Oxford. He joined the University of Bath in 1995 and has held the following positions within the Department of Mechanical Engineering:

  • 1995 to1997: Probationary Lecturer
  • 1997 to 2001: Lecturer
  • 2001 to 2008: Senior Lecturer
  • 2008 to 2012: Reader
  • 2012 onwards: Professor

Gary was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship in 2011.
