— Staff from the University of Bath visited Stellenbosch University

A delegation of 5 academic staff from the psychology department travelled to South Africa at the end of February, 2016, to develop research and education links with colleagues at Stellenbosch University, a University of Bath preferred international partner. The visit was sponsored by the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, as part of the Faculty’s internationalisation strategy.
A particular strength of the psychology team in Stellenbosch is their focus on clinical and health psychology research. During the visit numerous opportunities for collaboration emerged, including in areas such as HIV, grief and bereavement, and alcohol use and femininity. Various joint research and teaching exchange activities have been planned. Opportunities to support PhD mobility and to host undergraduate placements at Stellenbosch were raised. The delegation from Bath also spent time meeting with and establishing links with colleagues from the departments of Psychiatry, Sociology and Anthropology, and Social Work at Stellenbosch.
This continues be a stimulating opportunity for academics in both institutions to develop international programmes of research.
