Commenting on his new role, Professor Maio said: ‘I am looking forward to helping the Department in an exciting new phase of development. In our brilliant new building, we will consolidate and build our research culture and continue to develop our teaching excellence.

‘We want to continue developing as a hub of research activity that is creative, significant for society, and internationally facing. Creative ideas and innovative solutions will help us to create a stimulating, adventurous environment for diverse staff and students.’

Speaking about the new appointment, the outgoing Head of Department Professor Bas Verplanken commented: ‘ We are delighted to welcome Professor Maio, both as our new Head of Department, colleague and renowned scholar.

‘Greg is a well-respected social psychologist and an internationally known expert in the area of human values. Bringing this work into our department will not only energise the social psychologists amongst us, but will resonate with all areas in our Department, as well as those in other departments.
