The image 'Misery Loves Company' was highly commended in the Best Description Category and represents research conducted by MSc Health Psychology student Maddie Freeman, supervised by Dr Sally Adams, Professor Chris Griffin and Dr Paula Smith in the department.

The research explores student drinkers' conceptualisation and experience of alcohol hangover. Findings of the research indicate that students view hangovers as contributing to social bonding, with the image of research reflecting students' reports of  "suffering together" - a continuation of group socialising, including reminiscing about the drunken activities of the night before.

About the images of research

Images of Research is a public exhibition in Bath that shows how our research produces real benefits and makes a difference to society.

We ask our research staff, postgraduate students and academics to submit their images with a description that shows why their research matters. All entries are displayed in an exhibition where members of the public can vote for their favourite images.
