REACT was one of four £5 million Knowledge Exchange Hubs for the Creative economy established by the Arts and Humanities Research Council to develop novel models, methods and approaches to getting universities and the creative sector collaborating.

Professor Danae Stanton Fraser was an investigator on and led the University of Bath’s participation in the Hub in collaboration with UWE, the Universities of Bristol, Exeter and Cardiff and the Pervasive Media Studio. The project was centered around five themes of Heritage, Books and Print, Objects and Play. The REACT approach was to generate a dynamic network of creatives, academics, institutions
and businesses by funding collaborative projects that explored a range of creative markets, from publishing to interactive documentary to children’s products.

REACT funded 53 collaborative projects, including 73 academics and 57 creative companies. 86 new products were produced, 76 new pieces of software and 10 new companies. A showcase on the project in Bristol attracted 6,000 members of the public.
