PhD/MPhil research

The Centre for Power Transmission and Motion Control offers a wide range of PhD research opportunities in the fields of fluid power, motion control, machine dynamics and mechatronic systems. Projects often link with industry and research in the Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre, Centre for Biomimetics and Natural Technologies, Centre for Orthopaedic Biomechanics and Powertrain and Vehicle Research Centre. This gives research students the opportunity to work on inter-disciplinary projects with strong industrial relevance.

EngD in Systems

The University of Bath has set up an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) Centre in Systems for "Managing Systems for Enhanced Performance" in association with the University of Bristol. It covers diverse backgrounds in Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering Management. Research Engineers spend 75% of their time in a collaborating company. They may be employees from the company or sponsored by an EPSRC stipend plus company enhancement over the 4-year duration of the degree.

MSc/Diploma/Certificate in Fluid Power Engineering

The PTMC offers taught postgraduate programmes on Fluid Power Engineering. The courses have a very practical and relevant technical focus to meet the needs of professional engineers and the industry. Learning is a combination of teaching, tutorials, case studies, laboratory work, research and self-learning. The units are assessed continuously by reports, projects, oral presentations, seminars and written exams. The programmes are well known and respected by the UK and international industries, which is largely due to the outstanding reputation of the Centre for industry relevant research, consultancy and postgraduate training.
