Hazel has overall responsibility for the maintenance and development of the University’s research administration procedures and systems; the maintenance of records of research activity and the provision of accurate and timely management information; control of information dissemination and the financial integrity of the costing and claims methodology. She is the authorised University signatory for research applications and contracts.

One of her prime responsibilities is to ensure that the team maintains effective liaison with other bodies and people within the University who are engaged in the promotion, development and administration of research. Hazel manages relationships with other University bodies and departments as appropriate, and ensures that procedures and policies in areas of joint responsibility/activity are adequately dealt with.
 
She also maintains external network links with funding bodies and relevant professional groups, together with informal networking with colleagues working in related fields. She is a member of the Association of Research Managers and Administrators (ARMA) and meets regularly with the Research Councils’ Research Administration Convergence Group (RACG) through her membership of the Research Organisation Consultation Group (ROCG), part of whose remit is to provide a University Research Office perspective on the administration of Research Council grants. She is also a member of the Association of Research Managers and Administrators (ARMA).
 
Hazel continues to be involved in ensuring the correct implementation of Full Economic Costing (fEC) at the University, and is a member of the University’s TRAC Steering Group. She is responsible for  the implementation of Manpower Software’s pFACT software at Bath and is a member of the pFACT User Group along with representatives of some of the other 30 or so universities which use it.
