Philip Brown
Research Commercialisation Manager
Phil joined the Enterprise and Knowledge Exploitation team (EKE) in RDSO in July 2012 as the Research Commercialisation Manager for Life Sciences.
Phil has a strong background in life sciences and holds a BSc in biochemistry and pharmacology and PhD in molecular biology, investigating drug and protein binding to DNA from the University of Southampton.
His early career was spent developing DNA based diagnostics at the University of Cambridge and at a biotechnology company, Cytocell Ltd. Phil then moved into the commercial side of science working at PharmaVentures Ltd, a pharmaceutical business consultancy, and within the commercial team at Vectura Ltd, originally a Bath spin-out, focussing on drug delivery to the lungs.
Phil’s role at Bath is to work with the researchers, to help them understand the commercial value of their research, to help them to protect it, and then to help them work with industry to commercialise the research.
