LIMA Business Technology Centre invited to meet Government Ministers
The University of Bath’s Laboratory for Integrated Metrology Applications Business Technology Centre (LIMA BTC) was invited to meet Government Ministers at the South West Manufacturing Summit, led by the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg MP and The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Dr Vince Cable MP.
Ben Adeline, Commercial Director and David Allen, Business Development Manager, both from LIMA BTC, attended the Summit, held at the £300 million Bristol & Bath Science Park last month to exhibit the Centre’s capabilities and its work with South West SMEs.
Ben and David discussed the commercially focused LIMA BTC with Mark Prisk MP, Minister for Business and Enterprise, which has been hosted by the University since June 2010 and worked with over 90 regional businesses to date. Mark Prisk MP was keen to discuss the important service of applied measurement techniques, as offered by LIMA BTC, to help ensure UK manufacturing maintained a leading global position. He was also pleased to hear of the £1 million funding to LIMA BTC from the European Regional Development Fund and the significant industry support from Rolls-Royce, Renishaw, Airbus and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL).
The
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg spoke of the critical importance of innovation, knowledge and skills, and for engineering and manufacturing to be seen as the vital link in Britain’s recovery and future prosperity. He said: “We have to inspire our young people to get into manufacturing if we want to exploit our own collective potential as a real power in manufacturing across the world”.
The event was attended by leading manufacturing businesses and universities from the South West, with LIMA BTC one of only 20 invited exhibitors.
