£118,209 to Materials Research Centre for Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Pall Europe

A grant of over £118,000 has been awarded to the Materials Research Centre in the Department of Mechanical Engineering to develop expertise in industrial polymers at Pall’s Ilfracombe site. The aim is to optimise the processing of polymeric materials for the manufacture of industrial and pharmaceutical filters. Improvements in the understanding of polymers will increase productivity and reduce wastage and provide in-house specialist knowledge for future product development.

Dr Ansell, Head of Materials Sub-Group, stated that “the Centre will gain new insight into the evaluation of industrial polymers and the manufacture of industrial polymer products. Working with a world class organisation as they implement significant improvements in production techniques and product evaluation represents a great opportunity for learning from industry and dissemination into teaching and research”.

Pall Europe supplies filters to a complex international market. Pall Ilfracombe manufactures industrial and pharmaceutical filters and is a significant contributor to Pall Corporation’s global success. This KTP award is Pall Ilfracombe’s third with the University and will be a continuation of valuable work undertaken with the company over several years, further deepening the strong collaborative relationship with the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

This partnership receives funding from the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships scheme. KTP aims to help businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the UK Knowledge Base. This KTP is funded by the Technology Strategy Board.

KTPs are one of the largest graduate recruitment programmes in Europe. KTP uses the knowledge and skills of high calibre graduates and their academic supervisors to inject fresh ideas into UK businesses. To find out more visit the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships Office at Bath or call 01225 383844.
