£129,500 for the Innovative Design and Manufacturing Research Centre for Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Pro care UK Limited

An award of over £129,500 has made to the Innovative Design Manufacturing Research Centre (IdMRC) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering to upgrade the machine design capability within Procare UK Ltd. The project will develop ‘state of the art’ processes and machine design capability, enabling Procare to be more agile and versatile in responding to changing opportunities. The company plan to contribute additional funding of around £300,000 in new machines and refurbishment.

The aim of this Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) is to develop an engineering capacity to automate existing machines and processes and also to integrate others to create a more efficient process flow. Procare seeks to gain measureable improvements in productivity and swift response to customer demands.

The award will fund a competitive salary for a KTP graduate to be employed for two years at Procare UK’s Bristol offices. The graduate will be supervised by Professor Steve Culley and Graham Outram in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

“Engaging in projects of this nature is necessary for academic researchers in manufacturing related work, as continual involvement in industry constantly challenges, tests and develops our thinking.” Professor Culley commented.

The award is jointly funded by Procare UK Limited, EPSRC and the Technology Strategy Board under the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships Scheme. KTP aims to help businesses to improve their competiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills.
