Academic Registrar - The Academic Registrar is the Head of the Professional Services department called the Registry, which provides support for the academic purposes of the University with a range of services that is often known as academic administration. At the University of Bath, this academic administration stretches from support for the recruitment and admission of students, through record-keeping for most of the activities of current students, to award ceremonies and careers advice. It also includes support for systems and processes which underpin academic administration, for the structures of academic programmes, and for records management within the University.
Board of Studies - The Boards of Studies are responsible to Senate for all matters relating to the organisation of education, teaching and research in each Faculty/School, including all examination matters. You can find more information about the Boards of Studies here.
Chair of the Board of Studies - The academic member of staff who leads the meetings of the Board of Studies. This is usually the Dean of the Faculty/School.
New Framework for Assessment - The University began the introduction of a New Framework for Assessment (known as NFA) in 2008/9. This provides an agreed, consistent regulatory framework for assessment across the University. Details of each phase of the implementation can be found here, along with full details of the assessment regulations which apply to different programmes. Office of the Independent Adjudicator - The OIA is an independent body, external to the University, set up to review student complaints.
Prima Facie - This is a latin term meaning based on first impression, before investigation.
QA53 - This University Quality Assurance statement sets out the principles of academic integrity as they relate to examination and assessment offences and applies to all programmes of study leading to a credit-bearing award of the University of Bath, wherever delivered. Regulation 17 - This University Regulation relates to the conduct of student Academic Reviews and Appeals.
Review Sub-Committee - A Review Sub-Committee is an independent committee established to undertake an Academic Review. It will explore the facts of a case, giving all parties the opportunity to be heard. More information about the composition and operation of this Sub-Committee can be found in Paragraph 17.8 of the University Regulations.
Student Academic Appeals Committee - The Student Academic Appeals Committee is responsible for considering and determining the outcome of appeals from students, including where the student disagrees with the outcome of a review hearing held in accordance with Regulation 17 (Academic Reviews and Appeals) and wishes further evidence or procedural irregularities to be considered.
