Some of the general challenges of the UK water industry are climate change, competition, changing regulation. The Anglian Water region has particular challenges – flat, a large area, and the driest region in UK, high growth. As a business we have responded to this by setting high level aspirational goals e.g. reducing embodied carbon by 50% in the construction of new assets, and zero pollution.
In the context of these challenges we have developed a broad and varied innovation programme covering the man made water cycle, catchment management and customer engagement. Typical projects relate to design and operation of water and sewerage networks, treatment processes. More recently we have focused more on gig data, real time control, IOT solutions and also starting to explore the opportunities in customer engagement/segmentation.
