Research & Innovation Services (RIS) is responsible for advancing the University's international reputation for research and knowledge transfer by:

  • increasing the volume of externally funded research
  • improving grant application success rates
  • enhancing strategic and operational support to academic departments

RIS is the primary conduit for industry, business and other funders to access the research expertise and knowledge of the University of Bath.

Core service areas of RIS:

Research Development - Help with identifying research funding opportunities and developing high value research proposals.

Pre Award - Advice for academic staff on the preparation of research proposals with a focus on finance.

Contracts - Oversight and management of the drafting and negotiation of research-related contracts.

Research Project Management - professional project management support from qualified staff using PRINCE2 methodology or similar.

Post Award - Post award finance monitoring and support to ensure that funder regulations regarding expenditure are followed.

Business Development - Support for developing Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) and other business led research activity.

Research Commercialisation - Support for commercialising academic research with industry and protecting intellectual property.

Consultancy Services - End-to-end support for the deployment of academic knowledge to client organisations, usually industrial or commercial.

Research Information and Intelligence (RII) - Support for Pure, REF and Impact along with providing up to date information about the research undertaken at the University.

Enterprise and Innovation Centre - a unique environment that combines work space, business support and inspiration for high-growth companies and the entrepreneurs that create them.
