Information about the University's research activity

We are increasingly asked to provide detail on how research funds were used and the value for money they have provided. Accurate information about the research undertaken at Bath is vital within the University to inform strategic decision making. We also need to be able to report effectively to external stakeholders such as the funding councils and HEFCE. Finally, clear and up-to-date information allows us to communicate the findings and impact of our research.

Research Excellence Framework (REF)

RIS supported the University's REF preparations. Further details from RIS on REF.

RCUK ResearchFish

ResearchFish has been adopted by all of the Research Councils, as well as a number of medical charities, to gather data about outcomes from publicly funded research. AHRC, BBSRC, EPSRC, ESRC and NERC had previously used the Research Outcomes System (ROS). ResearchFish will, in most cases, replace final reports.

Information about your research

Accurate information about research is essential to help you manage your research budgets more effectively and assist you in applying for funding.

The University has implemented Pure to act as a single point of information about our research. Pure provides you with an overview of your research here at the University (applications, awards, outputs, PGRs supervised) and allows you to record activities (such as reviewing or editorial roles) and Impact. Pure also has the capacity to create a CV based on this data. For further details see the Pure webpages or contact

Details of all your live research applications and awards can be viewed using the improved PI Desktop Reports within Agresso. These can be accessed via Agresso on the Web. Log-on with your normal username and password; PI Desktop can be found under Reports, Global Reports. Heads of Department and Directors of Research can also access Department level reports on research applications and awards under Global Reports, Research Portfolio Reports. If you have any issue accessing any of these reports email

Full details of your publications in Pure (including a pdf of the article where deposited to meet open access requirements) can be accessed externally via our institutional repository, Opus.

Planning, engaging with and recording the impact of your research is an important element of your research portfolio. We have collected a range of resources on impact on the RIS Impact Gateway. Details of the activities leading to and of the impact achieved can be added to Pure.
