New SETsquared Director

You will no doubt be aware that as a University we are part of the SETsquared Partnership, the enterprise alliance between the universities of Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Southampton and Surrey. The Partnership is now 10 years old and has recently been recognised as the best of its kind in Europe, and 4th in the world.

Despite the success SETsquared has achieved, the universities are keen to build on this and have a strategy for greater impact in the future. A key component of SETsquared is a small but influential central team which is the main driver for delivering future growth and led by a SETsquared Director. The SETsquared Management Team has come to the view that in order to achieve our strategy, the Director should be an experienced enterprise professional and we have taken steps to put this change into effect.

I am now in a position to let you know that the current Director, Graham Harrison, will be stepping down from the role on 4 April 2014. I am also delighted to announce that Simon Bond, Director of the University of Bath Innovation Centre, has been appointed as the new SETsquared Innovation Director to run the central team and will be taking up this important and challenging role once all the contractual arrangements have been finalised. Importantly this is a two year secondment at 0.6 FTE and throughout Simon will remain a member of staff at the University and retain his office at Carpenter House. In order to release Simon, I have secured from SETsquared sufficient resources to give Simon full time support during his secondment.

We congratulate Simon on a great achievement and wish him every success during the secondment.
