Research and Innovation Services and the School of Management have co-hosted and sponsored the CBI South West Economics Dinner, with BNP Paribas, bringing together over 50 business leaders and executives from the Bath and wider South West to network and share best practice, on behalf of the University of Bath.

The event, which took place this month at the Bath Spa Hotel, provided guests with a national and international economic perspective following a talk from Mr Andy Haldane, Chief Economist and Executive Director, Monetary Analysis and Statistics, from the Bank of England.

Voted as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, Andy also has responsibility for research and statistics across the Bank. He has written extensively on domestic and international monetary and financial policy issues, and is co-founder of ‘Pro Bono Economics’, a charity which brokers economists into charitable projects.

Professor Veronica Hope Hailey, Dean of the School of Management, attended the dinner and also provided a few words. Professor Hope Hailey's research focuses on the connection between business strategy, HR strategy and change management. She specialises in working with large, mature organisations in collaborative research partnerships. Her most recent work focused on the Repair of Trust following the financial crisis.

Professor Hope Hailey says: “The University of Bath has a proven track record of engagement with industry through which we demonstrate the impact of our research and ensure the employability of our graduates. Collaboration with the CBI can help us achieve those three objectives. The School was pleased to support this event”.

Dr Jon Hunt, Research and Innovation Services Director at the University of Bath, says: “This collaborative event was a unique opportunity to celebrate the University of Bath's strength in practitioner-focused research and innovation, whilst hearing the latest position on our economy”.

The event was also sponsored by BNP Paribas, with Mark England, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, BNP Paribas Real Estate, representing and speaking at the Dinner.

The evening was closed with a vote of thanks from Steve West, Chairman, CBI South West.
