University receives £89,000 for industrial collaboration in the area of Therapeutic Innovation

The Medical Research Council (MRC) has awarded the Centre of Therapeutic Innovation at the University of Bath £89,000. This is through the Proximity to Discovery (P2D) scheme, to encourage early engagement and knowledge exchange between industry and academic researchers.

The MRC funded 28 UK Universities in the 2018 MRC proximity to discovery grant round.

Professor Nicholas Brook, Dean of Science said: “This is an exciting opportunity to grow new collaborations between industry and academic researchers, in the area of therapeutic innovation. Building strong, long-term links between industry and academic communities is key to ensuring exchange of knowledge and skills and ensuring our research has real-world impact.”

The funds will support a range of activities that include:

- academic-industry workshops
- short term academic staff placements
- a bespoke early career scheme to support industry placements
- exchanges with industry partners, to support visiting industrial fellows form partner companies to the University of Bath
- full time exchanges for three to six months in relation to the development of specific technologies and research projects, bringing together academic or industry researchers in University or partner company labs.
