Proximity to Discovery: Knowledge Exchange Secondments

The MRC have awarded the University of Bath £200,000 through the Proximity to Discovery scheme, to encourage early engagement and knowledge exchange between industry and academic researchers. AstraZeneca are also providing cash and in kind contributions to the University for this scheme.

Part of the funding is to aid Knowledge Exchange Secondments covering:

Traditional Academic Secondment

  • A secondee will be able to spend up to two days a month at a partner company for up to six months.

Industrial Secondment

  • With the partner company a reciprocal arrangement will be established to allow visiting industrial fellows from partner companies to visit the University of Bath

Intensive Secondment

  • The third approach is to provide focussed full time exchanges for three to six months (similar to short KTPs) in relation to the development of specific technologies, co-locating academic or industry researchers together in University or partner company labs.

Technology transfer staff exchange

There is also the opportunity for researchers to be seconded into technology transfer offices of the University or possibly into Industry

Further details of the secondments and the application process are available.

The first closing date for this scheme is the 10 April 2015.
