Newly awarded research from Bath and Brazil Exchange Fund

The São Paulo Research Foundation, Brazil (FAPESP) and the University of Bath have jointly funded the first calls for proposals following the signed Memorandum of Understanding for the exchange of researchers earlier in the year.

The newly funded collaborations are with Professor Paul Milewski, Department of Mathematical Sciences who, with colleagues from the Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, who will be researching long-short wave interactions in the atmospheric dynamics.

Other research is between Dr Jason Wolf, Department of Biology and Biochemistry, and colleagues from the Biological Sciences Centre at the Federal University of São Carlos, Brazil, who will be exploring the comparison of intra and inter-specific genetic architecture of speciation in South-American fruit flies.

Professor Jane Millar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research), who helped establish the joint fund, says: “It is very exciting to see these new collaborations being awarded through the Memorandum of Understanding with FAPESP. This scheme provides a great opportunity to support joint research with partners in São Paulo and to bring talented researchers from there to Bath”.
