How to apply

You can apply for all postgraduate programmes using our online application form. You can follow the progress of your application using Application Tracker.

Below is a step-by-step guide to the application process for our postgraduate taught programmes (MSc and MRes). Before applying please take note of our generic and programme-specific entry requirements.

Combined offers

If you have not met our English language requirements, you may be eligible for a combined offer. This combines the five or ten-week summer Pre-sessional General course with your degree, making a 13 or 14-month course.

  • For the ten-week Pre-sessional combined offer, your English level must be no less than one IELTS band (or equivalent) overall and in each of the four components below the entry requirements for your degree programme.
  • For the five-week Pre-sessional combined offer, your English level must be no less than IELTS 0.5 (or equivalent) overall and in each of the four components below the entry requirements for your degree programme.

If you are interested in this option and need further guidance on eligibility, please contact the admissions team.

For more information about combined offers, please consult the Academic Skills Centre web pages.

Step 1: Choose your course

You can search for courses or browse by department. You can also find information about entry requirements, fees and course content for each course on these pages.

MSc or MRes?

MRes courses are more research intensive than MSc courses. MRes courses are generally more appropriate for applicants who have had research experience beyond a typical undergraduate project. For example, summer internships or paid employment in a research role.

Step 2: Apply online

Complete the online application form, giving as much information as possible.

You need electronic copies of the supporting documents ready before you apply. These documents must include:

  • your undergraduate degree transcript to date
  • your undergraduate degree certificate if you have already completed your degree
  • an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae

Important points to remember

  • documents received by email will not be accepted. If you experience difficulty uploading your documents, try adjusting the size of the document (maximum file is 2MB)
  • remember to upload the original authenticated versions and the authenticated English translations of the documents if they are in another language
  • your application will not be considered until all supporting documents have been provided, along with your completed application form
  • if you hold copies of in-date IELTS, please upload those as well

After you have applied

You can check the progress of your application by logging into Application Tracker. You will be given log in details after you submit your application. If you forget your password, you can reset it.

You may be contacted to supply additional information or be invited to attend an interview (via Skype).

We aim to make any decisions within 4 weeks of receiving applications and all the required supporting documentation.

Accepting your offer

We will let you know if your application has been successful via email. If you have been successful you will be made an offer. You will be able to view your offer in Application Tracker.

You should accept or decline your offer through the Application Tracker as soon as possible. If we don’t hear from you within 4 weeks, we may withdraw the offer.

Unconditional offer

You may be given an unconditional offer. This means you have met all the academic conditions we require.

Conditional offer

You may be given a conditional offer. This means there may be requirements that you have not yet met but that we hope you will be able to do so. You must meet these requirements and submit evidence of this via the Application Tracker to start your course with us.

If you have met the conditions of your offer, you will be contacted about the next steps.

Overseas admission offers must be unconditional by 31 July to ensure enough time to issue a visa.
