Logging and tracing

Property can then be traced much more easily if lost or stolen.

Property marking

Over the next 3 years the University of Bath Security Department will be working in partnership with SelectaMark , a property marking company and the local Police to encourage students to mark their property with SelectaDNA prior to coming to the University.

The 'SelectaDNA' product registers the property to the owner and allows the University and Police to readily identify recovered property and return it to the rightful owner. The invisible marking contains uniquely numbered microdots visible using a microscope.

The Head of Security Services, Brian Schofield, says:

"It is hoped that students will take personal responsibility in marking their property with 'SelectaDNA'. It is anticipated that this will reduce the number of crimes, as well as fear of crime in the University community. Details of products will be available via a newsletter and website link sent to all new students on campus."
