Information

The Incident Reporting Information System, affectionately known as IRIS by security staff, is a database of all incidents and crimes reported to Security Services. It allows management and staff the opportunity to examine trends, identify vulnerable areas and times and respond with suitable resources and technology.

Abusive substances

Trends

Theft from sports changing rooms on campus remains a frequent crime. To reduce opportunities for thieves:

Security Services liaise with the Police to highlight our services and raise awareness of crime reduction measures that staff, students and visitors can take to minimise the risk of becoming victims.

 

 

CampaignsAbusive substances

Security Officers will staff stands at the Suppliers Exhibition and Freshers’ Week. to engage with staff and students. Officers will encourage property marking and give advice and tips on safe guarding yourself and your property.

Poster campaigns to reduce crime and increase awareness of the dangers of using drugs, will continue throughout the year.

Property Marking

Security work in partnership with property marking company SelectaMark and the local Police to encourage students to mark their property before bringing it to campus with 'SelectaDNA'. This microscopic technology allows belongings to be readily identified.

Help us identify and return lost or stolen property to you by marking it clearly to deter any would be thieves. For more information see our Personal Property page.

Tips

Follow these simple tips to reduce your chance of becoming a victim of crime:

Vehicle Crime

  • Park in well-lit areas
  • Keep valuables out of sight

Sports Venues

  • Use the lockers
  • Don't take valuables with you

Personal Safety

  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Avoid walking alone

Drink Spiking

  • Never leave drinks unattended

Cycles

  • Lock it or lose it (shackles available from Security)
  • Secure to a designated cycle rack (see cycle parking location map)
  • Postcode it

Student Accommodation

  • Do not leave valuables near open windows [Ground floor]
  • Close windows when you leave your room
  • Mark your property with 'Selecta DNA' [link this to Selecta DNA link] or by another method
  • Lock your door when you leave your room
