Research interests include:

  • History, sociology and social psychology of dying

  • Mystical/religious/altered states associated with death and dying

  • Public health policies, service sector development, and practices in end of life care especially in aged care, palliative care, bereavement care, disaster management and accident and emergency care

  • Sociology of health and illness

  • Health promotion, community development and social ecology

  • Qualitative and unobtrusive methods of social research
