Research to investigate class and gender inequality in young peoples’ educational decision-making

Dr Nicola Ingram, in collaboration with Professor Ann-Marie Bathmaker (University of Birmingham) has been awarded £9,170 from the British Academy/Leverhulme Small Research Grants scheme to conduct a study of the experiences of young people completing vocational training at University Technical Colleges.
The project is entitled: Who wants to be an engineer? The effects of vocational diversification in English 14-19 secondary schooling on the decision-making and experience of girls and boys from different social class backgrounds.
The project aims to explore issues of inequality in terms of class and gender in young peoples’ educational decision-making and aspirations.
