Research Fellow publishes new book: The Jews of Andhra Pradesh

Research Fellow, Shahid Perwez, has recently co-authored a new book; The Jews of Andhra Pradesh: Contesting Caste and Religion in South India, with Yulia Egorova (Durham University) which has been published by the Oxford University Press.
The book is the first of its kind, and is based on Shahid’s year-long ethnographic fieldwork with a Dalit group in India that has embraced Jewish tradition, under the Lost Tribes of Israel discourse.
The book has generated positive reviews so far, and promises to extend contemporary understandings of Jewishness as well as new directions in Dalit social mobilisation.
There are book launch events planned for later in the year in the United States and India.
