Gillian Macdonald speaks at Children, child contact and domestic abuse seminar in Scotland

21 June 2013

Dr Gillian Macdonald (Social Work) spoke at two seminars held in Glasgow and Edinburgh on her research examining how issues of domestic violence and children's perspectives are included and what impacts they have in private family court proceedings.

Gillian is a qualified social worker and is currently employed as a social work lecturer in the Department for Social and Policy Sciences at the University of Bath. Her research interests include men’s violence against women and children, particularly domestic violence; social work with children and families and children’s participation in decision-making that affects them. Gillian’s PhD thesis (2010) examined family court processes in domestic violence cases, specifically the inclusion and impact of domestic violence and children’s voices in Cafcass welfare reports prepared for the courts in private family court proceedings involving domestic violence in England.

The event was hosted by the Centre for Reasearch on Families and Relationships (CRFR). The CRFR was established in 2001 as a consortium research centre based at the University of Edinburgh, with partners at the Universities of Aberdeen, Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian, Highlands & Islands and Stirling. Their consortium approach allows the development of a multi-disciplinary work programme that reflects current issues and trends from across the country.

More details about the events can be found on the CRFR website.
