Sociology undergraduate to present poster at the International AIDS conference

Fri Jun 20 16:45:00 BST 2014

Sociology undergraduate Dilly Lota will be presenting a poster at the International AIDS Conference 2014 based on preliminary results of her dissertation.

Her research is a qualitative exploration into the barriers to treatment access for HIV-infected infants in sub-Saharan Africa, inspired by her work at ViiV Healthcare during her placement year, which has continued on a part-time basis during her final year.

ViiV Healthcare is a global specialist HIV/AIDS company committed to delivering advances in HIV/AIDS treatment and care.

During her placement year, Dilly worked with the Positive Action for Children Fund (PACF) team which sits within ViiV Healthcare. This £50million fund supports local community-based NGOs working on the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

Connections with the PACF team and the Paediatric Innovation Seed Fund allowed Dilly to interview a range of participants with extensive experience and key insights into the barriers to HIV treatment access that persist primarily in rural communities in select locations in sub-Saharan Africa.

Dilly and the team from Viiv Healthcare will be travelling to Melbourne, Australia in July to present the poster.
