Five students from the MSc International Development programme have just returned from a summer school on participatory video at Universitat Jaume I in Castellón de la Plana, Spain.

This two-week intensive course for 30 master's students from a network of EU universities was part of the Global Identity (Gloabl_ID) project, creating new spaces to incorporate groups at risk of social exclusion. Faced with this challenge, Global_ID seeks to contribute to constructing a global citizenship.

The project was EU-funded and was a collaboration between the universities of Valencia (Spain), Timisoara (Romania), Pavia (Italy), Bath and University College London.

Speaking about the course, MSc student Maryam Saeed commented: "Very exciting! An eye-opening experience that allowed me to learn Participatory Action Research (PAR) techniques and in-turn applying these to film the grievances of the marginalised community in Barrio San Lorenzo. Researching, storyboarding, interviewing, filming, editing and showing the PAR video to the local municipality and the community only within two weeks time was undoubtedly thrilling, challenging and interesting. I sincerely appreciate all that I have learned from the Global_ID team."
