In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF2014) - the UK’s independent national assessment of research quality - an impressive 80% of the Department of Social & Policy Sciences’ publications were judged as world-leading or internationally excellent (3* or 4*), with even higher scores for our research impact and environment.

The Department submitted under the Social Work and Social Policy Unit of Assessment (you can download the impact case studies).

The Department of Social & Policy Sciences is one of the UK’s leading centres for social sciences, with a reputation for cutting-edge research and innovative teaching.

Speaking about the results, Professor Lynn Prince Cooke (Director of Research) commented: “These achievements reflect our continuing commitment to rigorous research on the most important academic debates and policy challenges facing the world today, and to making a real difference in people’s lives as well as policy and practice.”
