Development studies at the University of Bath has today been placed within the top 50 in the world, according to the QS Top Universities global rankings.

The subject was ranked 47th out of 387 in the world.

Further, the University of Bath is the only institution in the QS University Rankings: Top 50 Under 50 2014 to be ranked for development studies.

The QS Top Universities ranking combines the opinion of over 85,000 academics and 41,000 employers to inform the results, alongside the analysis of 17.3 million research papers and over 100 million citations.

Speaking about this achievement Dr Joe Devine (Head of Department of Social & Policy Sciences) commented: “Our research produces cutting-edge critical knowledge and is strong in delivering real world impact. This expertise is incorporated into our teaching so that students are equipped with the skills and tools to be development leaders of the future.

"To be ranked alongside such prestigious universities such as Princeton University and Brown University in this subject area is an outstanding achievement for a relatively young university.

“In 2015, we will launch a new and innovative undergraduate degree programme which will ensure we continue to be among the world’s leading centres of excellence in international development."

This announcement coincides with the Centre for Development Studies celebrating its 40th year anniversary this week.
