Dr Rana Jawad has produced a short film which takes a fresh look at religion and social welfare in the Middle East.

The film is based on research Dr Jawad has conducted in Lebanon, Turkey and Iran since 2000.

It takes a comparative perspective and considers the meaning and importance of social justice, citizenship and religion in each context.

Dr Jawad argues for more long term and sustainable social policy in the MENA region developed from context specific approaches which recognise the importance of certain institutions in civil society and social action such as religious bodies.

Dr Jawad, is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social & Policy Studies at the University of Bath, specialising in the Middle East and North Africa region and the role of religion in public social welfare action.
