A new book has been published by our researchers that examines the conundrum of development success, but weak governance in Bangladesh.

Researchers from our Centre for Development Studies have published a new book: Politics and Governance in Bangladesh.

In the book, Dr Ipshita Basu, Dr Joe Devine and Professor Geof Wood draw together research from scholars to explore the central issue of Bangladeshi politics: the weakness of governance.

Speaking about the new book, Joe Devine said:

'The original idea behind the book was to open up a space to reflect and share ideas about politics in Bangladesh. In bringing the book together, that dialogue continued among authors as we observed different changes in Bangladesh. Now that it is published, I hope that it continues to trigger debate and discussion on the relationship between politics and social change. The book highlights  challenges and lessons from the Bangladesh experience but they are relevant for many other contexts and countries'.
