The Social & Policy Sciences MPhil and PhD programme is an opportunity for students to undertake original research with our department.
Our Departmental research is focused on the disciplines of social policy, sociology, social work and international development.
We are recognised internationally for the quality of our research and we have an established team of experienced researchers who have a commitment to social wellbeing and social justice. Between them, they have a wealth of practical experience in designing and evaluating social policies around the world.
All research students are supported by strong supervisory arrangements as well as by structures that ensure appropriate personal and professional development.
Researching a PhD
Staff and students discuss the PhD experience at the University of Bath.
We have a large, vibrant and supportive community of research students. We host a weekly postgraduate seminar series, where students will be able to share ideas and learn more about other research projects taking place.
Applications and funding
All students should have sufficient funding before starting their studies (without relying solely on part-time work). The Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences Graduate School provides guidance on potential sources of funding (scholarships and studentships) for postgraduate students.
Applicants must complete the application checklist before applying.
