Type of placement

There are placements in a wide range of commercial, voluntary and governmental organisations, including:

  • Social research organisations and charities
  • Political organisations and charities
  • International development organisations and charities
  • Public policy & affairs departments

All placement jobs are at a junior professional level. Ideally, you will be given a project or a piece of work that will be your individual responsibility. The job will provide you with a challenge and allow you to use existing skills and develop new ones. Placements may involve an element of routine work as well.

All students may take placements in commercial or government organisations, or alternatively, in a research setting, in order to acquire practical experience of sociological enquiries. They can also undertake research or other policy related work for relevant agencies in Britain or abroad.

BSc (Hons) Sociology and BSc (Hons) Social Sciences students only can also take up placements in any area of business (such as, marketing, public relations and finance). In addition, all students are able to apply for teaching positions in the UK or abroad, this includes TEFL positions.
