Communication Mast

MSc in Science, Culture and Communication

The MSc in Science, Culture and Communication offered by the Science Studies Centre from 1998 to 2008, has over 140 graduates. The SSC is based in the Department of Psychology, University of Bath. The Department was recently rated 1st in The Sunday Times survey of head teachers, 5th in the Times Higher Education League table, and 5th in The Telegraph Higher Education league table. The University is one of the top five universities in the UK in terms of graduate employment.

This well-established and highly regarded course has offered a winning combination of academic grounding (in science communication and the history, culture, and practice of science), and practical media workshops on Science Writing, Radio and TV production and web design -- all conducted by leading science broadcasters and communicators. Students have also gained experience through a wide range of communication work placements.

In addition, students undertake a supervised research project which prepares them for a research Dissertation on a topic of their choosing. The programme is supported by an interdisciplinary Seminar series presented by visiting Science Communication practitioners and leading academic researchers.

This combination of theoretical, analytical and practical work experience enables our graduates to find employment in all areas of science communication, in education and in research. The majority of our graduates have found employment within six months.
