Student Engagement Sub-committee

The subcommittee will make recommendations to University Learning, Teaching and Quality Committee on matters relating to the future development and strategy for student engagement including in the area of quality enhancement and assurance, feedback and surveys to help fulfil the objectives within the Education strategy.

Terms of Reference

  1. Oversee the operation, future development and strategy for student engagement including in the area of quality enhancement and assurance at the university to help fulfil the objectives within the Education Strategy and to ensure that these are at the forefront of good practice within the sector, both nationally and internationally.
  2. Oversee the ongoing compliance with the Quality Assurance Agency's HE Quality Code including the setting, review and evaluation of key performance indicators for student engagement including the area of quality enhancement and assurance processes and of staff training and support to facilitate the development and enhancement of student engagement within the University.
  3. Oversee the management of surveys of student within the university to provide both qualitative and quantitative data to support the monitoring of objectives within the Education Strategy including:
  • Rationalisation and delivery of all internal and external surveys of the student community including the surveying of the 'general' overall student experience.
  • Review of and compliance with the University's Survey Protocol and the maintenance of a survey schedule with the aim to reduce the burden of multiple questionnaires on the student cohort.
  • Support and training for professional support staff in evaluation, survey and questionnaire design.
  • Provision, presentation and communication of more timely, granular and effective feedback tot he student community on the actions which are being taken (or not being taken) as the result of student representation, and/or data from previous evaluations, surveys and questionnaires.
  1. Identify and disseminate good practice, and promote consistency across the university.
  2. Make recommendations to University Learning, Teaching and Quality Committee appropriate.

Procedural Rules

  • Membership: The term of office for nominated members of the committee is three years (renewable). In the event that a nominated member ceases to be eligible to serve, a replacement to serve for the remainder of their term of office will be nominated (renewable).
  • Co-option: At the discretion of the Committee in accordance with Senate Standing Order 16.
  • Alternates: Permitted in accordance with Senate Standing Order 17.
  • Quorum: One third of the membership of the Committee (Senate Standing Order 16).
  • Rules for Voting: None.
  • Minutes: Submitted to University Learning, Teaching and Quality Committee and University Research Students Committee.
